In the context of the tourist season, the leaders agreed to deploy Italian officers in Durrës and Vlora, in support of local law enforcement structures.
The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hitaj, held a meeting in Tirana with the head of the Italian Service for International Police Cooperation, Lorenzo Bucossi.
The conversation focused on strengthening cooperation between the two police forces and joint actions against organized crime. Both leaders assessed the current level of coordination and considered it a consolidated practice in the region.
The parties addressed priorities in investigative and operational cooperation. The discussion included the exchange of information, the coordination of joint operations and measures to combat illegal trafficking. Attention was also paid to the prevention of the cultivation and trafficking of narcotics, as well as the continuation of actions to capture internationally wanted persons.
In the context of the tourist season, the leaders agreed to deploy Italian officers in Durrës and Vlora, in support of local law enforcement structures.
The meeting also addressed cooperation in the field of training. The strengthening of ties between police academies and the possibility for a State Police employee to pursue studies in Italy were discussed.
"The focus of the meeting was the progress of the very good existing cooperation between the police forces of the two countries. Director General Skënder Hita guaranteed Senior Director Lorenzo Bucossi that the multidimensional relations between the two police forces will be further strengthened," states the official State Police announcement for this meeting.
For his part, Senior Director Lorenzo Bucossi praised "Director Hita's willingness, determination and vision for further strengthening cooperation" and invited him for a working visit to the Italian Police.
"During the meeting, priorities for investigative and operational cooperation were discussed, including the exchange of information and coordination of joint actions in the fight against organized crime and illegal trafficking, as well as the intensification of measures to prevent and crack down on the cultivation of narcotic plants and trafficking in narcotic substances ," the announcement continues.
