Ivan Balliu is preparing for a special season with Rayo Vallecano. In his fifth season with the Spanish team, the full-back and captain faces the challenge of the Conference League qualifying round and a challenging start to the season against Girona.
In an interview with Pablo Villa on "Radio MARCA"'s El Marcador, the Albanian defender admitted that playing in Europe with Vajekanon is a gift for the fans and that the motivation in the locker room is at its peak.
A preseason with a good atmosphere and intense work
Balliu explained that this preparation was easier than the previous one:
" We already know the coach and his way of working, everything has been more natural and easy. Between the intense sessions, the good atmosphere in the dressing room has been essential, with time for table tennis, darts and photos of Kamejo, who jokes that he has given him an official position as the club's photographer ."

Europe, a historic challenge
The defender, who at 33 years old admits he is in the final stages of his career, sees this European challenge as something unique:
" I never imagined I would play in Europe; it's a great motivation ." He emphasizes the importance of playing in the second qualifying round match in Valeca and dreams of seeing the neighborhood enjoying some wonderful European nights.

As for goals, he is realistic: survival remains the priority, although he does not rule out "going far and enjoying something more". Regarding the league debut against Girona, he warned of the danger posed by Michel's team and their tactical moves, despite the fact that they have yet to make new signings.
Experience, leadership and dedication
Balliu spoke about his role as captain and the severity of the difficulties off the field, such as the condition of the field at the training center:
" It's unfortunate because it's hurting us, but these are things that are beyond our control." The full-back also stressed the importance of maintaining the starting lineup and praised the new signings, especially Luis Felipe, for his "very similar profile to Valekas ."

The full-back renewed his contract until 2027, rejecting offers from other clubs, including Valencia, and even an offer from Saudi Arabia. His decision was driven by personal and family well-being: " I feel loved here and that's the most important thing ."

Healthy competition and the dream of the World Cup
Regarding his competition with Andrei Ratiu, he stated that it is "very healthy" and that he understands the disappointment when the club does not accept offers. On the horizon, Balliu also has his eyes on the Albanian National Team, with whom he dreams of playing in the World Cup: "It would be spectacular, but we know it is not easy."
