In Serbia, the project to build a new national stadium in the Surcin area is not going well. Even though it has been 3 years since the start of work, the slow pace has led people to consider the initiative a failure.
Not only that, but the economic cost of the stadium seems very high. Initially, the Serbian government announced that the stadium would cost around 250 million euros, but the cost has now exceeded 400 million euros.
It is worth noting that the project is not even 10% complete, while many unexpected problems have arisen along the way, making the work more difficult.
The stadium is expected to have a capacity of around 52,000 seats, meeting UEFA standards to host finals of important competitions.
The issue of the new stadium has drawn a backlash from opposition parties in Serbia, which have sharply criticized the project, calling it a "wrong priority" in a country where hospitals, schools and roads are in urgent need of investment.
