Scandal on "Rai 3", the television censors the investigation into
Gianluca Rocchi

The long-awaited interview with former referee Pasquale De Meo and the investigation into the refereeing system in Italian football were not broadcast in the last seasonal episode of the investigative show "Report" on "Rai 3", sparking numerous reactions and controversies in the sports community.

The show was announced as a detailed investigation into the mechanisms of arbitration and the reasons that, according to the authors, affect the functioning of the Italian football system. However, during the broadcast, the audience only saw the part dedicated to the transfer market and the role of agents, while the segment on referees was completely absent.

Sigfrido Ranucci's warning

A few days before the broadcast, journalist and director of "Report", Sigfrido Ranucci, had publicly denounced the existence of legal pressures against the show.

Through a reaction on social media, he stated that immediately after the announcement of the investigation into Italian football and the national team's failures to qualify for the World Cup, legal warnings had arrived from people he called "the lords of football", with the aim of preventing the broadcast of the material.

Strong reactions on social media

The failure to air the investigation into the referees caused immediate reactions among fans and followers of the program. Numerous questions were raised on social media about the reasons for the segment's absence, while some commentators openly spoke of censorship.

Many users expressed their belief that the investigation had been blocked, while others demanded public clarification on the decision not to broadcast it.

What was expected to reveal former referee De Meo?

In promotional materials previously published by "Report", former referee Pasquale De Meo had raised claims about unequal treatment among referees and the existence of a system that, according to him, aimed to protect itself.

He stated that rumors were constantly circulating within the refereeing environment about the use of coded signals in the VAR center in Lisone. According to De Meo, these were knocks, hand gestures or other signs that could signal whether or not there should be an intervention by the VAR system during a match.

Doubts about the appointments of arbitrators

One of the topics that had attracted the most attention was related to several referee appointments and claims about referees considered "preferred" by Inter.

The recent sports debates have mentioned, among others, the Udinese-Parma match, as well as the appointments of referees for Inter's matches against Milan and Bologna. Fans expected the show to bring new details on these issues, but the segment was not broadcast and no official explanation was given for its absence.

Focus on marketing and the role of agents

Instead of investigating refereeing, "Report" devoted extensive space to the football transfer market and the influence of agents on player transfers.

During the show, an anonymous agent stated that in modern football, talent is not always the main factor in decision-making. According to him, economic interests and relationships between agents, sports directors and club presidents often have greater weight.

He claimed that some of the transfer market operations are carried out not necessarily for sporting reasons, but due to common business interests between the parties involved.

The mystery remains unanswered.

There is still no official explanation for the reasons that led to the removal of the segment dedicated to referees from the program. With the end of the "Report" season for the summer holidays, it remains unclear whether the investigation will be broadcast at a later date or will remain one of the most controversial episodes of Italian football in recent months.
