With the "Balloon of Gold" gala getting closer and the new season just starting, Lamin Jamal has recounted his personal and professional story on the "Resonancia de Corazón" podcast.
Family: “ My grandmother arrived in Spain alone from Morocco by sneaking onto a bus. She worked to make my father’s arrival possible. My mother came with her grandmother from Guinea. My parents met in Barcelona and we started living in a residence for young parents. I grew up there, there was a canteen where they gave us all food. Then we lived in rooms that friends left, until our parents separated .”
Life change : “ We moved into an apartment where the kitchen and the room were the same. Now I see my mother happy, my brother having the childhood I would have loved, my father at peace and my grandmother as well. My mother is my queen, she is everything a child could ask for .”
School and relationship with mother: “ The first year went well, in the second I encountered difficulties, because I was not used to people from different social ranks. Then I did not feel good in class. I told my parents: If it depends on you to work, we are lost. If you want me to become a footballer, stay calm, because I will become a footballer. My mother told me that I would not play if I did not study. One day I told her: Mom, I will go to school, but I will not do anything. I will prepare for training in the afternoon. She told me what I was talking about and what I had drunk… I told her: If I concentrate, I will become a footballer. I could not convince her, she scolded me every day, even when I debuted as a professional footballer ”.
His "Queen" : " Mom couldn't be with me much because she worked, but she always made dinner. I bought her a house, she's my queen and she deserves everything. I remember when she bought me a 'PlayStation 4', which was everything to me. Now I play a lot on the 'PlayStation 5'. I could have the biggest villa, but I would still stay in the PlayStation room ."
He is now a world star : " My life has changed in every aspect. Before, I could do whatever I wanted; go out with friends, enjoy my time, but now I can't anymore. I remember this summer's tour in Korea, Japan and China; it was impossible to go out everywhere, but I'm happy ."
Attack on father : " I was in the car coming from shopping with my cousin. My cousin called me and told me. I told my father to calm down and then I visited him in the hospital. Those were difficult moments, but I continued training ."
Racism: “ Have you ever seen a black person insult a white person on the street? No. There are people who may have been raised badly, but it doesn't bother me .”
