The passing of renowned coach Mircea Lucescu has shocked the Romanian football world, causing strong emotional reactions, especially from former players who worked under his guidance.
One of the most heartfelt reactions came from Romanian football legend, Georghe Hagi, who in a statement to "Digi24" expressed his shock and pain.
" I've had a very hard time speaking. I'm just now trying to find the words. I'm shocked ," Hagi said.
Hagi emphasized that his relationship with Lucescu was not only professional, but had deep personal dimensions.
" For me he was like a father. He had an extraordinary influence on my life, he supported me in important and difficult moments. He was not only a great coach, but above all a rare man ," he declared.
The former footballer praised Lucescu's contribution to his development as a player and as an individual, describing him as a key figure in his journey.
" He taught me a lot. He was a true master, almost like a professor to me. I owe him a lot for everything I have achieved ," Hagi said.
Finally, Hagi shared a personal episode that, according to him, illustrates Lucescu's extraordinary dedication to football.
" Before the play-off match against Turkey, he told me that if we didn't qualify, he could get sick and even die. He was so dedicated to the game ," he confessed.
