France failed to avoid elimination by Spain in the World Cup semi-finals, even though Didier Deschamps fielded an attacking unit worth a total of around 710 million euros. The Spanish media have described the defeat as a major setback for “Les Bleus”, highlighting the superior tactical organisation of Luis de la Fuente’s team.
According to Transfermarkt, the six strikers used by France during the match have a combined value of 710 million euros. At the top of the list are Kylian Mbappe and Michael Oliseh, valued at 150 million euros each. They are followed by Desiree Due (120 million euros), Osman Dembele (100 million euros), Ryan Cerki (90 million euros) and Bradley Barkola (70 million euros).
However, all this potential was not reflected on the field of play. According to Spanish media analysis, Deschamps relied more on the individual qualities of the players than on the collective functioning of the team, in contrast to the playing model that Luis Enrique has built at PSG.
On the other hand, Spain played a near-perfect game from a tactical point of view. The Iberian defense neutralized the French stars thanks to constant coverage and excellent cooperation between the players.
Pedro Porro kept Bradley Barkola in check, while Mark Kukurej, with the help of Alex Baena, managed to block Ousmane Dembele and Michael Oliseh, who were constantly moving in different areas of the pitch. Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe was isolated by Pau Koubars and Aymeric Laporte, with the constant support of Rodri and Fabian Ruiz, remaining almost invisible throughout the challenge.
The analysis also assesses the contribution of Spain's attacking players in the defensive phase. Dani Olmo, Mikel Ojarzabal and Lamin Jamal worked without the ball to help the defensive unit, creating a collective mechanism that left France very little space to create dangerous chances.
Following this elimination, discussions have also increased about the future of Didier Deschamps on the bench of the French national team. The name of Zinedine Zidane continues to be mentioned as the main favorite to take over the leadership of the "roosters", in case the federation decides to end the era of the current technician.
