A video of Cristiano Ronaldo violently shoving a fan in the Armenian capital has sparked a storm of criticism online, casting a shadow over Portugal's preparations for their first World Cup qualifier. Footage filmed outside the Portuguese team's hotel in Yerevan shows Manchester City's Bernardo Silva leaving first, followed by Ronaldo and his teammates heading to training ahead of the match against Armenia. As the players were leaving, a group of fans rushed towards them, hoping for photos and autographs.
A fan approached Ronaldo closely, causing the 40-year-old forward to push him hard. The player's apparent irritation was caught on camera and quickly spread across social media platforms.
The excitement surrounding Ronaldo had been building since his arrival at Zvartnots International Airport, where crowds of fans had gathered hoping to catch a glimpse of the Portuguese captain. Local media described an almost constant wave of selfies and autograph requests.
Ronaldo, who plays for Saudi club Al Nassr, will make his 222nd appearance for Portugal. He has scored 138 goals in 221 games for the Lusitanians, including a hat-trick against Armenia during the EURO 2016 qualifying campaign. With Portugal, he has won three major trophies: EURO 2016 and two editions of the Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
