After strengthening the midfield with extraordinary success, Milan are also strengthening the defense. The Rossoneri have finalized the transfers of Koni De Winter from Genoa and Zachary Athekame from Young Boys. These two signings fill two important needs in the squad, although the players come with different characteristics.
De Winter's transfer was completed with Genoa for €18 million, plus €2 million in bonuses, and the player is expected to sign a five-year contract with an annual salary of €1.8 million. In return, Young Boys will receive €10 million for Athekame, with a clause guaranteeing them 10% of any future sales of the player.
Negotiations for both players had advanced significantly in the last few hours, leading to the conclusion of agreements with the respective clubs. However, the main credit goes to Igli Tare, who had secured the players' consent earlier.
De Winter will replace Thiaw, with Milan acting quickly to beat off competition from Inter, while Athekame, a 20-year-old and still developing right-back, is expected to gradually integrate into the starting line-up.
Recently, Young Boys attempted to increase the price for Athekame, backed by a €13 million offer from a French club, but the player remained adamant in his desire to join Milan alone.
