Serie A club Parma has decided on an unusual choice for the bench, which was left empty after Kristian Kivu left for Inter.
Italian media reports that the American owners have placed a real "bet" by entrusting the team to Spaniard Carlos Cuesta.
He is a 29-year-old who has never been a footballer, but is considered one of those names who will make his way to the bench in his coaching career.
He has been Mikel Arteta's right-hand man and is highly regarded in England for his skills, which he will now put to use at Parma, where he will sign for the next three years.
Cuesta's career began at the age of 18, when he joined the youth staff of Atletico Madrid. He then joined the Juventus U-17 staff, before moving to London, where he has been Arteta's assistant for five years.
He is described as a tactical expert, speaks 6 languages and in his years at Arsenal he has stood out as a good tactical analyst, individually preparing different players for specific matches.
Now, he will have the chance to show what he can do as a head coach in a big team, in one of the most difficult championships in the world.
