Government support for parents of children with disabilities, Tabaku: They threw
Jorida Tabaku

Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku stated that the government has returned a proposal of its own to increase financial support for children with disabilities and foster parents, as according to her it was forced by pressure from citizens.

In a video published on social media, Tabaku focused on the current level of financial support, describing it as insufficient to meet the needs of families.

Tabaku recalled that last year she submitted a bill to the Assembly, also based on the stories of Mira and Jona, which envisaged doubling the minimum and maximum payments for people with disabilities. The initiative also included recognizing the care period as years of work and paying social security for parents who take care of their children.

The Democrat claims that the bill was rejected the moment it was presented, while now, the same measures have been returned in the form of budget amendments by the government itself.

She argues that this change is not the result of a new social approach, but of pressure exerted by citizens and protests. According to Tabaku, this case shows that public reaction can force the government to change its position and accept proposals that it had previously opposed.

"5,700 lek is the minimum payment for a disabled child. That's it. Nothing more. As much as 30 loaves of bread per month. Meanwhile, the payment for a parent who takes care of a disabled child is only 14 thousand lek per month. That's it. Nothing more. Half of the subsistence minimum. Both of these payments are a guarantee only for survival. Nothing more. Last year, based on the story of Mira and Jona, I proposed a law that doubled this payment, both the minimum and the maximum.

The proposal recognized the period of care as working years and provided for the payment of social security for all parents who care for children with disabilities. They took it and threw it in the trash with arrogance.

They rejected it. Today they have taken it out of the drawers, copied it and, through changes to the budget, brought it as their proposal. Don't think they are doing it out of sympathy, empathy or the need to support this group. They are doing it out of fear of losing power and the pressure that the protests have exerted on the government.

Remember: the power, unity and pressure of citizens have forced the government to make this decision, as well as many other decisions. This is an example that only by being together can we overthrow this system. Only by exerting pressure, together, all of us. That is why today, more than ever, in the square! ", says Tabaku.
