Egnatia coach Edlir Tetova seems convinced that Albanian clubs have the strength to make it through international competitions, including the Champions League. He reiterated this in an interview given to "Sport News" on "News 24".
The coach of the reigning Super League champions insisted that his team can advance to the next round of the competition and in a conversation with moderator Trevisa Tufa, he confirmed that he expects reinforcements in various departments to achieve this objective.
Special choice, why Bulgaria Tetova, to develop the preparatory phase?
I think Bulgaria was the most suitable place, it was the only place we had the opportunity for friendly matches.
Are you satisfied with the Tetovo draw, did you "fish" for an Icelandic team, Breidablik, or could it have gone better?
The draw has its own emotions, I think we are in a relatively good draw. After all, this is the Champions League, I am happy with the draw.
It's not like we have good experiences with these cold, distant transfers. What do you fear most about Tetovo?
I think they have a good team, they have a team with experienced players. They have strong points in defense, midfield and attack. I wanted to highlight the attack. We will take our measures.
Is this challenge passable, is the first round of the Champions League a real test of Egnatia's strength?
I think everything is open, of course we will try. Our objective is to have a round in the Champions League. Let's see.
Tetovo, a year ago President Demrozi said that the only obstacle was the adventure in Europe. What will you do differently this year, what lessons have you learned?
It's not like the season-season. In the first year, we were eliminated by Ararat on penalties. The only hurdle is against Borac. The Vikingur team was better than us. We weakened with the sale of players. We have strengthened this year. This weekend we expect 2-3 players. We will try with all our strength to pass the round.
Why do we suffer so much in Europe, why are we so fragile? Why do we fail so easily?
I think it's just a matter of the cycle, that the players are not convinced of themselves. To be honest, they don't have anything more than us. The normal big teams that have a difference, but these teams that play at our level, I think we're on the same level. It's just a matter of credibility.
Where do you want to reach this year, Tetovo, what is the realistic, most likely objective?
I have said that my personal goal is to go through a round in the Champions League. After that, everything depends on the draw, nothing is in our hands.
Are you satisfied up to this point in the transfer market, Aleksi renewed, Ndreca, Zejnullai left, you have brought in a striker like Selmani. Do we have anything new, any new approaches?
Of course I am pleased, I am a little unbalanced with the departure of Zejnulla. I am happy with the renewals of Aleks and Ndreca. The arrival of Selman is an added value, I wanted to bring him closer since last year.
What does Tetovo need, where does the team need to strengthen Egnatia?
There will be movements in defense and attack. These two departments will need improvement. We have discussed with the staff and administration that we need 20 players to cope as best as possible in Europe and the championship.
How are the preparations going?
I think we are only in week 3. The loads are reaching their maximum. Starting next week, the team will be in optimal shape to face the Champions League and the championship.
Will you fulfill your wish to spend a tour?
I say with full conviction that it is achievable. Then, in football, anything can happen. I think we should have a strategy or objective, all for one, one for all, to get through the Champions League.
