The head of the Vetëvendosje branch in Skenderaj, Hysni Mehani, was physically attacked by the mayor of Skenderaj, Sami Lushtaku.
The news was announced through a Facebook post, published by his relative, Bahri Zabeli, who forwarded Mehani's message.
Meanwhile, the attending physician at the Family Medicine Center in Skenderaj, Flamur Meziu, has confirmed that Mehani suffered head injuries.
According to him, medical teams intervened after being notified by the Police.
"The police notified us. The team went to the scene and provided first aid. The injuries are localized to the head. There were no injuries anywhere else, just a scratch on the arm, nothing major," Meziu declared.
He added that Mehani has been transported for further treatment to the Regional Hospital in Mitrovica.
Lushtaku reacted after the incident that occurred this Thursday in Skenderaj.
Through a Facebook post, Lushtaku claims that there have been attempts to provoke and attack him, while adding that he has been offended by the calls "Sami Serbia".
According to him, the reaction came from the citizens who were there and who, according to him, "no longer tolerate" these labels from representatives of the Vetëvendosje Movement.
"Albin Kurti's government, through its mechanisms, attempted to attack me today in Skenderaj. I have spent my life serving the country, and citizens no longer tolerate labels like 'Sami Serbia', which is why they reacted ," Lushtaku wrote.
The incident is suspected to have occurred in a cafe in the city of Skenderaj.
The Vetëvendosje Movement also published photographs of Mehani, where he is seen bleeding from the head after the incident.
Hysni Mehani currently holds the position of chairman of LVV in Skenderaj and acting deputy minister of finance in Kosovo.
So far, the Kosovo Police has not given an official reaction regarding the case.
