Arian Lluka,  one of the most well-known names to Kosovo authorities, has been arrested at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota, Colombia. He is accused of the criminal offenses of "aggravated murder" and "causing general danger."

The news was confirmed by Colombia's Defense Minister, Pedro Sanchez, who announced that the arrest was carried out on the basis of an international arrest warrant from INTERPOL.

According to authorities, Lluka was wanted by Kosovo for the criminal offenses of "aggravated murder" and "causing general danger," and was considered a high-value target for the Balkan region and the UN peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.

According to investigators, during the years 2023–2026 he had moved to several countries around the world using Serbian identity documents to evade arrest and international controls. Lluka had traveled to countries such as Colombia, Chile, Turkey, Switzerland and the Philippines.

Who is Arian Lluka?

Arian Lluka's name first became public after the murder of Fidan Shabani in Peja in 2012, one of the most sensational criminal cases in Kosovo.

According to the indictment of the Prosecution in Peja, Lluka was suspected of having helped hide the victim's body, destroy evidence and destroy the crime weapon.

Lluka himself denied involvement in the murder, but admitted that he owed the victim 10,000 euros.

The case took another turn after Besarta Kastrati-Haraxhi, convicted of the murder, stated in an interview that the real perpetrator was Arian Lluka and that she had taken the blame under threats. According to her, Lluka had threatened to kill her daughter and brother if she did not take responsibility for the crime.

The affair of 25 kilograms of gold

Another serious case in which Arian Lluka's name is mentioned is the disappearance of 25 kilograms of gold from the Evidence Room at the Peja Police Station, one of the biggest criminal scandals in Kosovo.

According to investigations, Lluka was suspected of being part of the group that had extracted and melted down the gold seized by the police to then sell it outside of Kosovo.

The prosecution claimed that he was initially engaged in the transportation of gold, while later he was also involved in the process of melting it into gold bricks.

The case was also linked to former police officers and well-known figures in the criminal world in Peja.

Prison escape

After his arrest in Kosovo, Lluka escaped from Mitrovica Prison during a weekend leave granted by the Correctional Service. He never returned to serve his sentence and was declared a fugitive for a long time.

In an interview with Kosovar media, Lluka confessed that he had secretly left Kosovo for Serbia, hidden in the trunk of a car.

Now, after several years on the run, Colombian authorities have confirmed his arrest in Bogota.

The Colombian Minister of Defense stated that the operation demonstrates international cooperation against organized crime and the capacity of the authorities to identify internationally wanted persons.
