Kosovo is facing time pressure, as the constitutional deadline for electing a new president ends tomorrow. Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has avoided a direct answer regarding the possibility of supporting Vjosa Osmani as a presidential candidate.
Asked by journalists, Prime Minister Kurti did not give a clear position on this issue, RTK writes.
Even the former president of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has refused to speak about the president's case. While paying homage at the Monument dedicated to Persons Forced to Disappear during the war, she demanded that they be respected.
Meanwhile, the country is facing time pressure, as the constitutional deadline for electing a new president ends tomorrow.
So far, political parties have not reached consensus on a name that would ensure the participation of at least 80 MPs in the voting process.
In an attempt to unblock the situation, the Vetevendosje Movement has made an offer to the two main opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Democratic League of Kosovo, to propose three candidates for the post of president. The LVV has pledged to secure the necessary signatures to formalize the candidacies and to support one of them in the vote.
This offer was not received equally by the opposition. The PDK rejected it, while the LDK set conditions, specifically mentioning the name of Vjosa Osmani as a possible candidate.
Osmani this month completed her 5-year term as head of state.
