The leader of the National Development Movement, Dashamir Shehi, sees the protest held in front of the Prime Minister's Office as an expression of accumulated dissatisfaction with the government, more than as a direct reaction to the Zvërnec project.
Invited to "A2 CNN", Shehi said that most of the protesters have not mobilized because of the details of the project, but because they feel disappointed with the way the country is being governed.
"It's not that those who are there deal with foreign investments. I'm sure most of them don't know about Zvërnec, or any kind of project. It's an expression of dissatisfaction," said Shehi.
According to him, the protest has become a channel to express dissatisfaction not only with the government, but also with the traditional opposition, which no longer enjoys the trust of a portion of citizens.
"There are people who come there because they realize they've had enough of this government. They no longer trust the official opposition, and that's why they're there. One thing becomes the reason," he said.
The sheikh warned that the number of protesters could increase significantly if civic discontent continues to deepen.
"Those who are there, 5-6 thousand people, could become 50 thousand in a week. Others are also becoming aware and realizing that things are not going well here," declared the head of the LZHK.
Shehi emphasizes that the Zvërnec project is just one cause that has highlighted a broader problem.
"They go there because Albania has great dissatisfaction, not simply for a project. The project is the envy that shows that the color has changed there, that things are bad," he concluded.
