Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted on social media regarding the protest held the day before in the Narta area, ironizing the citizens who participated in the rally.
In a post published this morning, Rama asked protesters that, if they return to the area to protect the flamingos, not to enter the beach with vehicles and not to leave garbage after they leave.
"GOOD MORNING and with a humble prayer to the revolutionaries, that when they next go to that shore to mourn the flamingos, they do not make them cry by desecrating the beach with their cars - because the poor birds will remember that the construction of the parking lot began there, and they will take flight as they did before the 10-year hunting moratorium - if they leave their wheels on the highway and walk like flamingos to the edge of the sea without being afraid of the dirt, but preferably without adding to it like yesterday that they left behind the beer cans, I wish you all a peaceful Sunday?", Rama writes in his post.
The protest in Nartë comes at a time when rallies and citizen marches have been held in Tirana and other cities in the country against development projects in the Zvërnec and Sazan areas.
Organizers and activists say they oppose what they consider a threat to the area's ecosystem, while demanding more transparency about the planned projects.
"Rama goes away", "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison", "Resignation" and "Albania is not for sale" were some of the slogans that have accompanied the protest that has been taking place for a week now.
What began as a civic reaction has turned into a revolt against a political system that, according to protesters, has produced corruption, emigration, poverty, and a lack of hope for younger generations.
In addition to rallies organized in Tirana, Vlora, Korça, Shkodër, Durrës and other cities in the country, Albanians and activists have also held protests and awareness-raising demonstrations in foreign countries, including London, Germany, Italy and the United States of America.
