Rama's cancellation of participation comes on a day when anti-government protests have dominated political developments in the country.
The protests that have taken over Tirana and several other cities in the country have caused Edi Rama headaches, forcing him to change his political agenda. The head of government has canceled at the last minute his participation in the 35th anniversary ceremony of the Socialist Party in Gjirokastra, an activity considered of symbolic importance for the socialists.
Although preparations for the event had begun in the early hours of the morning, chairs had been placed in the premises where the ceremony was planned, the stage had been prepared, and all the decor had been organized to welcome the Prime Minister in the afternoon.
So far, there has been no official explanation from the Prime Minister's Office or the Socialist Party regarding the reasons for Rama's absence from the event.
Rama's cancellation of his participation comes on a day when anti-government protests have dominated political developments in the country. Rallies and protests have taken place in Tirana, Fier, Shkodra and other cities, while the civic movement is taking on national proportions and beyond borders.
Meanwhile, the 35th anniversary ceremony of the Socialist Party in Gjirokastra was held under the leadership of Minister Mirela Kumbaro, also the political leader of the region, as well as the Secretary General of the Socialist Party, Blendi Klosi.
Another element that has attracted attention is the lack of the usual echo on social networks. Until the evening hours, neither Prime Minister Edi Rama, nor Mirela Kumbaro, nor Blendi Klosi had published photos, videos or messages from the ceremony held in Gjirokastra, unlike other political activities that are usually widely promoted on online platforms.
As the Socialist Party celebrated its 35th anniversary, public attention remained focused on the protests.
