The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has praised the participation of Albanians in the diaspora in the protests held over the weekend, describing the mobilization as an event of particular importance for the opposition and the country.
In a press conference, Berisha said that Saturday and Sunday's protests marked a historic moment in terms of the number of participants, as he thanked the citizens who traveled from different countries around the world to join the rallies in Tirana.
Berisha repeated his accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, demanding his removal from office and describing the protest as a means to exert political pressure on the government.
"I want to express my gratitude to those tens of thousands of citizens who traveled from all over the world and joined tens of thousands of citizens on Saturday and Sunday, giving Tirana and the nation a true sea of hope with their unprecedented protest. The weekend that passed, the most peaceful and powerful uprising known in history, was the weekend of the diaspora. Together with the patriots of the diaspora, members of the DP, who chose to support the dismissal of Rama. This makes the mafia's rule hopeless. My call to every democrat and supporter of the DP, to every Albanian citizen who loves this country, to continue the most powerful protest the country has known, in the mission to the country and the nation, the immediate removal of Rama, against whom corruption files are burdened, and on top of that, terrible thefts. He is accused of having deposited offshore 200 million euros that he stole from Albanians. The series of files is as big as the mountain of "What about Dajti's billions of euros? He is a master thief, he stole billions of euros from me. His family members appear in the files of the National Anti-Corruption Agency, in Porto Romano and other files. The protest of almost half a million is not strong enough to save him, so resignation without return for Rama," he said.
