Tehran scores first victory in talks, US lifts sanctions on Iranian oil exports

The US administration has issued a general license temporarily allowing the export of Iranian oil, easing a significant portion of sanctions on Tehran. According to an official announcement published on the US Treasury Department website, the production, distribution and sale of Iranian crude oil and petrochemical products are authorized for a two-month period, until August 21, 2026.

The license also includes the possibility of importing these products into the territory of the United States, a step that is considered unusual in the context of tense relations between the two countries.

The move comes as a key aspect of a memorandum of understanding signed last week between the US and Iran. Diplomatic sources say the agreement aims to reduce tensions and pave the way for further dialogue on other issues, including Iran's nuclear program and regional stability.

Energy experts estimate that this temporary license could increase global oil supply and affect international prices, especially at a time when the market is sensitive to geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

The Treasury Department has not provided further details on the exact reasons for the decision, but emphasizes that the license is time-limited and does not constitute a permanent lifting of sanctions.
