Prime Minister Edi Rama, from Berat where he is holding a meeting within the framework of the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party, said that the declaration of the Vjosa National Park was part of the Socialist Party's program and that the socialist government has significantly expanded the area of protected areas in the country.
The Prime Minister criticized those who, according to him, present the Socialist Party as a threat to protected areas and biodiversity, describing this stance as the result of "blindness combined with manipulation."
Referring to the protest held in Tirana against the project in Zvërnec, Rama raised the question of who has violated nature and biodiversity in the area, while emphasizing that Zvërnec has not been removed from its protected area status.
"I can't help but dwell on the topic of the day, nature. The Vjosa National Park has been part of the SP plan. Those who want to protect it were not put under protection by us, we put it. Albania with 25% of the protected territory, from many times less than we found it, we, the SP, have drawn it. Talking about protected areas, about protected landscapes as a whole, and you turn to the SP, including me, seeing them as a danger, this is the peak! It is a peak that blindness, combined with manipulation, can reach. There is a protest in Tirana where people are protesting to protect nature. But who has violated nature? Who put biodiversity at risk? Was Zvërneci removed from the protected area? But who removed it? What protected area was it? It was a category 5 protected area. What are you protesting about? The real debate today is not whether or not diversity will be protected, as this is an inseparable part of the work "Ours in the face of all diversity," he said in Berat.
