The Democratic Party hopes to win Ilir Alimehmeti's mandate in the Tirana district by requesting the opening of the ballot boxes.
The legal representative of the Democratic Party at the CEC, Franci Nuri, confirms to Top Channel that the request for a recount will focus on the re-evaluation of invalid ballots.
" The result is quite close regarding the 14th mandate/ The mandate is a discussion between the Democratic Party Alliance for Greater Albania and the party of Mr. Agron Shehaj. Invalid ballots are an option, they cannot be overlooked, as there are about 17-18 thousand invalid ballots in the entire Tirana district and they must definitely be part of the review and evaluation in our judgment, " says Franci Nuri, legal representative of the DP.
But the democrats' legal battleground to open the door to Parliament to Dr. Alimehmet, who lost the chance to wear the lawmaker's jacket by a handful of votes, is not just the invalid ballots.
" The other option is looking at the election materials for each polling station where we judge there were problems and if a polling station is removed from the calculation of the result there, the mandate could change since the difference was less than 100 votes ," he said.
Democrats are seeking to overturn the elections not only in the districts they lost, but also in those they won.
"It is a political decision by the DP, as the farce was present everywhere, there were problems everywhere even though we managed to win."
Tirana will be the last district to be appealed by the Democratic Party's lawyers, who will use all the legal time to gather evidence for the long legal battle that awaits them both at the doors of the CEC and the Electoral College. / TCH
