Former MP Lefter Maliqi, in an interview with Report TV, said that he will launch a thank you tour not to celebrate, but to express gratitude to those who voted for him and to apologize for the result. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the DP, as he was not included second on the list, although they had previously agreed on this.
According to him, in the Berat district they lost their third mandate because of the democratic political leader Eno Bozdo, whom he accused of having directly influenced the boycott. Maliqi said that all opposition candidates together received 13 thousand votes, while he himself received more support with over 5 thousand votes.
"From tomorrow, I will start the tour of thank-you contacts in the Berat district, hand-to-hand meetings and no celebration at all because it is not a time for celebration but for reflection and to apologize to the democrats. I adhere to Berisha's statement about the electoral farce of the Elections in many aspects in the Berat district, starting from the electoral asphalt, the denunciations to the police and the Prosecutor's Office for the use of the administration during official hours of the mortgage and municipality.
Institutional offices in Skrapar, Berat and everywhere have been used. In addition to this crime, we need reflection. So far, I have won myself in my entire political career, giving the entire mandate to the DP in 2009.
Likewise, in Kuçovë, Albanians know that the loss was very small, but the legal battle continues to this day. But this time I claimed to be second based on the results and popular support in the Berat district as the political leader of the PL, to secure three mandates and to fight for the 4th in the Berat district. These conversations were held with both leaders, with Meta without being arrested and with Berisha. Then, because only 4 PL mandates were left, two in Tirana, Fier and Elbasan, I had objections but in the end it was decided.
The third mandate of the Berat district is certain, with my going there. The third was lost directly by the political leader of the DP, Eno Bozdo. I have also informed the opposition and Dr. Berisha. Since the opinion was opened that Maliqi would win, there was internal jealousy and all the powers of the DP were focused on throwing the hidden stone in the municipality of Kuçovë and the commune of Otllak, I should have been an even deeper winner. Not only did I not introduce myself, but he misused some structures and followed me, even in Skrapar," Maliqi said.
He said he was attacked from both sides, while expressing his belief that he received the most votes.
"This jealousy has surprised and shocked me. The problem is simple. The entire right, 8 candidates together, received 13 thousand votes and Maliqi received 5,222 votes, coming first in the diaspora, Kuçovë and in Skrapar. Even in Skrapar I did not get the result I claimed, where the DP received double my votes while it is known that Skrapar belongs to Mr. Meta. I am shocked by this, but I also informed Mr. Berisha. I even received thanks and phone calls from Berisha. But the jealousy was so great that the agreement was that throughout Albania we would have counters on the candidate lists. As a political leader, I should have counters on every table. I had big problems, Noka told me to defend my vote. I did not tell him in any way. How will I protect myself from the Democrats or the Socialists. This time I am surprised why I was attacked from both sides, and again "I survived with 5222 votes, while I am convinced that there are even more votes," Maliqi added.
For the defeat, in addition to the government, he also blames the opposition political leaders, who according to him "were out of the game". He challenged Bozdo, saying that since he has great support as he claims, he should resign and run for the municipality of Berat. Maliqi expressed certainty that he will suffer a major defeat.
"For Rama to win 83 mandates. We must own our mistakes. They couldn't follow Sali Berisha, unfortunately, an 81-year-old from Thessaloniki came to Kuçovë, while half of the political leaders were out of the game, due to the closed system. Some of them stayed in Tirana, some at lunch. For example, they left the Berat area uncovered, they came to introduce the candidates in the villages, and left 30 villages in Berat untouched. Because they were all in Kuçovë and Otllak, in my area. Maliqi should not come out. The whole game is that the disappointed Democrats and Socialists would say what is happening with Maliqi. They would say don't vote for Maliqi because he has gone to the left. That's how far they got.
In Kuçova there were also candidates from the diaspora, but they were not supported. Now the problem is that we have local elections in Berat, and I call on Eno Bozdo to resign since he has broad popular support, and run for the municipality of Berat. I declare that he will lose over 10 thousand votes.
If the second on the list loses by 6,500 votes, he loses by 10,000 votes. If Bozdo is the political leader there, if he continues with this rule and divide, all municipalities will lose deeply. With Eno Bozdo, I no longer sell the Democrats. A man who laughs at you, but stabs you in the back. A man who does not love the Democrats, but looks after his own interests. If he is Soros's, let him stay there or if he is a bandit. There is no reason to attack Lefter Maliqi", he added.
According to him, there should be a caretaker government and elections should be held within a year. But if such a thing happens, he declared, the political leaders of the opposition should resign. He also appealed for a reorganization of the DP.
"I hope that we will have a technical government and after a year elections will be held, but with devoted political leaders. Sali Berisha is working, but some of the political leaders are putting their hands in their pockets. Both sides have made mistakes in the lists, but the SP is well-organized in many aspects. A strong state machinery, they were so organized that who are the democrats, who votes for us or not. There were problems in the SP too, but the victory was taken in all forms. I am not saying that it bought 83 mandates, but over 60 mandates the buying begins. The opposition coalition could have more mandates, in Tirana one or two more, but this happened also because of the political leaders who must be strong in the brain and in confrontation," he added.
