The May 11 elections have brought significant changes in parliamentary representation.
The Albanian vote has ended the careers of more than half of the previous MPs. Among the 140 seats in the new parliament that will begin in September, there will be no well-known political names due to poor performance in the 2025 elections.
Compared to the 2021 votes, the strong battle within the same logo with the change of the electoral system did not give the former Prime Minister Pandeli Majko the opportunity to be in the Assembly for the next 4 years, after 9 legislatures. His preferential votes within the country were almost halved from 8780 in 2021 to 4357 votes in 2025 and not even the diaspora with 2379 voters could help him achieve at least the same result.
But in the Socialist Party, the sharpest decline is seen in Etjen Xhafaj, elected MP with 12,782 votes in 2021, a shine that faded 4 years later after he was only able to receive 1,054 votes domestically and only 142 votes abroad. Socialist Arben Pëllumbi also suffered a blow, dropping from 3,774 votes to 1,821 votes in Albanian territory.
Former Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli also marked a significant decrease of 3,790 votes within the country in 2025 from the 5,597 votes she received in 2021. Xhemal Qefalia had an increase in votes of about 1,000 votes and Blerina Gjylameti about 500 more votes, although they did not manage to defeat their better-performing colleagues.
From the blue camp, the former leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, remained, who in these elections competed with the Euro-Atlanticists and recorded a free fall in votes from the peak of over 16 thousand votes in 2021, failing to overcome the figure of 2000 votes in 2025.
Former Democratic Deputy Chairman Enkelejd Alibeaj also tried himself in a new role but failed after receiving only 330 votes in these elections out of 5,225 four years ago. Another former chairman of the Democratic Party group, Edmond Spaho, remains outside Parliament after failing with half the votes compared to 2021 with a difference of 3,000 votes, and decided to finally withdraw from political engagement./TCH
