The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, commented on the latest political developments in the country, starting with the dismissal of Erion Veliaj from the municipality of Tirana and up to the elections for this municipality.
Mediu said that the opposition's candidacy should include an inclusive candidacy.
"Unfortunately, we are at a moment where one person decides. Personally, I have no appreciation for Erion Veliaj from a human point of view, but also from a political point of view. He should enjoy the elements that the constitution and the law guarantee him. Legal certainty is important. The processes are not carried out in the media, nor in the neighborhood councils, but as the law and the government determine. This is a process in the interests of consolidating the powers of one person, such as Rama. I think that the opposition, despite all the conditions of an electoral farce, which was also ascertained by the OSCE/ODIHR, is forced to face the elections. It must involve citizens against evil, so we must find an inclusive candidate. We must talk about an inclusive candidacy," he told "News 24".
When asked if there is a suggestion for a name from the PR, Mediu emphasized that he has thoughts on names, but they have not been specifically discussed.
"They should be people who go beyond the political costume, be close to the citizens. I would not be for... I have consideration for Tabaku and Alimehmet, but the situation would be more localized. I have a lot of consideration for them, but with the short time we have, if there are products that come out of the consensus, we will not get where we need to be. The idea of competing shows a desire to continue the battle. If the DP has opened a negotiation phase, it is time", he asserted.
