Ben Blushi has been named "Author of the Year" at the Pristina Book Fair for his novel "I Am Muslim", a work that has sparked widespread public debate and was praised by the jury for its literary courage and treatment of themes of identity, religion and society.
Renowned Albanian writer Ben Blushi has been awarded the special "Author of the Year" award at the Pristina Book Fair, thanks to the success of his latest novel, "I am a Muslim."
The jury, composed of literary critics, writers and poets, praised Blushi for his unique narrative style, as well as for his courage in addressing major themes related to identity, religion and society, themes that have long occupied a place in world literature.
Ben Blushi has a long career in Albanian public life as a publicist, politician and author. He has published over ten novels and political essays, among which stand out well-known titles such as "Living on the Island", "Otello, the Arab of Vlorës" and "The Conspiracy".
The recently published novel "I Am a Muslim" has attracted widespread attention from readers and critics, selling thousands of copies within a few months and sparking discussions and controversy in public opinion.
During the award ceremony, Blushi said that his latest book has brought him quite a few clashes and debates, but emphasized that the work should be seen as literature and not as a manifesto or political treatise.
"I Am a Muslim" tells the story of an atheist writer who, faced with pressure from the Islamic community in the neighborhood where he lives, decides to convert to Islam, opening a broad debate on individual freedom, identity, and the relationship between the individual and the community.
