
The police have reacted to yesterday's incident, where a fire broke out at the street market in Durrës.
It is suspected that the fire broke out due to accidental causes, after an electrical spark on the roof of one of the stores spread, causing material damage to at least 35 stands or stalls located there.
According to police, the flames spread rapidly, as they were favored by the wind.
"Yesterday afternoon, the Durrës Police were notified that a fire had broken out at the seasonal market in neighborhood no. 13. Police and fire services immediately went to the scene, which enabled the fire to be extinguished. From the investigative actions so far, it is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical spark on the roof of one of the shops and spread as a result of the wind ," the police announced.
The investigation team is awaiting a pyrotechnic expert examination that will definitively determine the cause of this fire. In parallel, an investigation is also underway to determine who is responsible for the incident and whether any procedural or safety violations will be found.
It will be local institutions that will determine and decide on its reopening. A good portion of the merchants managed to save their goods in time after the fire, while 35 stands were severely damaged by the flames.
As a result of the flames, there was only material damage, while the quick intervention also prevented the further spread of the flames. The traders will await the decision of the institutions to resume activity there or in another suitable area.
