The Special Court has upheld the security measure of "prison arrest" for Violand Braçellari, suspected of the murder of State Police officer Enea Mekolli and the wounding of officer Edison Adri.
The security measure was communicated to him at the Trauma Hospital, where Braçellari is currently hospitalized. The prosecutor in the case and Judge Gentian Sallahu were present at the hearing.
Braçellari is accused of the serious incident that occurred on June 4, during a police operation organized to capture him.
According to preliminary investigations, he was hiding in his tent and, as soon as he noticed the presence of police officers, he allegedly opened fire on them with a Kalashnikov automatic weapon.
Officer Enea Mekolli lost his life in the shooting, while Officer Edison Adri was injured.
Sources from the investigation indicate that a day before the operation, the police had obtained information through operational channels that Braçellari had come down from the mountainous area and had stayed for several hours in the village of Lozhan.
Investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident are ongoing by the authorities.
DECISION
1. Legal validation of the arrest in flagrante delicto of the person under investigation VB, suspected of committing the criminal offenses "Murder of state police officers", "Murder of state police officers" attempted, "Unlicensed possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition" in the form of possession of firearms in public places and "Unlicensed production and possession of hunting and sporting weapons" in the form of possession of hunting weapons and ammunition, provided for by articles 79/b, 79b-22, 278/1 and 280 of the Criminal Code.
2. The assignment to the person under investigation VB of the personal security measure "Arrest in prison" provided for by Article 238 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
3. The Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Korça is responsible for the execution of this decision.
4. An appeal may be filed against this decision at the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, within 5 (five) days, starting from the day after the communication of the reasoned decision of the court.
