Tirana police have arrested two people suspected of trafficking and distributing narcotics, seizing 1 kilogram of heroin during an anti-drug operation.
Gëzim Muhameti, also known by the surname Demiri, and Zhuljan Prençi have been arrested. Their arrest was made in flagrante delicto, following information obtained through operational channels by anti-drug structures in Tirana.
According to investigative actions, it is suspected that the arrested persons intended to supply other persons with the narcotic substance, with the aim of distributing it in doses in different areas of the capital, mainly in the New Tirana area.
Investigative sources indicate that Gëzim Muhameti, also known by the nickname "Gëzim Qorri", has been involved in narcotics activity for more than two decades. He is considered by investigators to be one of the main suppliers of groups operating in Tirana.
According to preliminary suspicions, Muhameti may have also been involved in the transportation of narcotics to Italy. Investigations have raised suspicions that the seized heroin originated from Turkey, while the quantity is suspected to have been obtained in the city of Elbasan.
The market value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be over 50 thousand euros.
Verifications show that Gëzim Muhameti has been previously convicted of criminal offenses related to narcotics, while investigations continue to fully uncover the network of persons involved in this criminal activity.
