Two people were arrested this Sunday by Tirana Police, after they were caught in possession of over 1 kilogram of heroin, which was suspected of being distributed in doses in different areas of the capital.
The arrests were carried out as part of the third phase of the police operation codenamed "Zones", which aims to crack down on cases of the supply and distribution of narcotics.
Gezim Muhameti, 51 years old, resident of Tirana, and Zhuljan Prençi, 35 years old, resident of Gjirokastër, were arrested.
According to the Police, following information obtained during the operation, officers stopped the vehicle in which the two suspects were traveling on "Prokop Mina" street in Tirana. During the search, 1 kilogram and 71 grams of heroin were found and seized.
Preliminary investigations suspect that the narcotic substance was planned to be distributed in doses in various areas of the capital, mainly in the New Tirana area.
The police announced that investigations continue in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, with the aim of identifying and holding accountable other persons who may be involved in this criminal activity.
During the previous two phases of Operation "Zones", authorities have seized over 1 kilogram of cocaine and arrested two other people.
"Tirana/Controls and crackdowns on the criminal activity of supplying and distributing narcotics are being intensified.
The third phase of the police operation codenamed "Zonet" is finalized. Another case of supply and distribution of hard narcotics is cracked. Over 1 kg of heroin is seized. 2 citizens are arrested.
Following successive operations to crack down on criminal activities in the field of narcotics and prevent the distribution of narcotics in the capital, the Narcotics Investigation Section successfully finalized the third phase of the police operation codenamed "Zones", cracking down on another case of supply and distribution of hard narcotics.
As a result of this phase of the operation, citizens GM, 51 years old, resident of Tirana, and Zh. P., 35 years old, resident of Gjirokastër, were arrested in flagrante delicto. Based on the information obtained in the operational route and after a well-organized investigative and operational work, the Police services located and stopped the vehicle in which these citizens were traveling, on “Prokop Mina” street.
During the vehicle search and physical examination, the Police services found and seized, as material evidence, 1 kg and 71 grams of suspected heroin-type narcotics. From the investigative actions, it is suspected that these citizens would supply other citizens with this quantity of narcotics, with the aim of distributing it in doses in different areas of the capital, mainly in the area of New Tirana.
In cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, investigations continue for the full documentation of this criminal activity, as well as for the identification and capture of other persons involved. During the first and second phases of the "Zones" operation, over 1 kg of suspected cocaine were seized and its two possessors were arrested. The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further action," the police announced.
