After more than a month of investigations, the Police discovered that the 85-year-old woman in Fushë-Mamurras had not died of natural causes, but was allegedly stabbed to death by her 57-year-old daughter, while the doctor who had registered the death as natural was also prosecuted.
A death initially reported as natural has turned out to be a family crime. Lezha Police have arrested a 57-year-old woman in Fushë-Mamurras, Kurbin, suspected of murdering her 85-year-old mother.
The event dates back to April 30, 2026, when the elderly woman passed away in the apartment where she lived with her daughter Violeta Shpani . At that time, the case was not referred to the police and the death was registered as natural.
Suspicions of a criminal incident arose after information was provided by the Lezha Police, which set up a special investigative group in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office. Verifications and investigative actions revealed that 85-year-old Dave Shpani had not died of natural causes, but as a result of wounds inflicted with a cutting instrument.
Investigations have revealed that the suspected perpetrator is the victim's daughter, who lived in the same apartment as her mother. According to police, she also suffered from mental health problems.
As part of the police operation codenamed "Enigma," the 57-year-old was arrested for the criminal offense of "Murder due to family relations." Investigators also seized the knife suspected of being used in the crime, as well as other material evidence.
Meanwhile, a doctor, identified by the initials A. Ll, has also been criminally prosecuted in connection with the case, without charge. According to the police, she completed the death certificate, describing the case as a natural death and without notifying law enforcement authorities.
The Police and the Prosecution are continuing their investigations to fully document the event and to verify whether other people had knowledge of or involvement in the case.

The Lezha Local Police Directorate provided operational information that an 85-year-old woman had died in the village of Fushë Mamurras on 30.04.2026, claiming a natural death and without being reported to the Police.
From the information provided by the Police, reasonable suspicions arose of a criminal incident.
Based on the information provided, the Lezha Local Police Directorate immediately established a special investigative group, which, in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, immediately initiated verification and investigative actions regarding the case.
From the entirety of the investigative and procedural actions, it has resulted that citizen D. Sh., 85 years old, lost her life as a result of blows with a cutting tool (knife), while the suspected perpetrator of the incident is her daughter, citizen V. Sh., who lived in the same apartment as the victim and suffered from mental health problems.
Following the actions, citizen V. Sh., 57 years old, resident of Fushë-Mamurras, was detained, suspected of being the author of the criminal offense "Murder due to family relations".
The cutting tool (knife) was seized as material evidence, as well as other evidence related to the incident.
Also, procedural materials have been referred to in the free state for citizen A. Ll., a doctor, for the criminal offense of "Abuse of duty", who completed the death certificate, qualifying it as a natural death and not reporting the death of the 85-year-old to the Police.
"In cooperation with the Prosecutor, work continues on the full legal documentation of the event and, if there are other persons involved, on their identification and bringing them to legal responsibility," the police statement said.
