The Tirana Prosecution has requested 25 years in prison for Mario Përlleshaj, the minor who stabbed Martin Can to death in front of the school.
He is accused of the criminal offense of murder in qualifying circumstances against two or more persons. But prosecutor Alma Felaj said that she leaves the final sentence to the court's assessment, reminding him of the Criminal Code for Minors, namely Article 97.
This article stipulates that the sentence under these conditions does not exceed 12 years, which means that if the court takes these circumstances into account, the perpetrator of the murder of Martin Can and the injury of Luis Meçja can be sentenced to less than half of the initial sentence, i.e. 12 years. In the next session, the defense's conclusions will be held, as well as the position of the injured parties.
The investigation into the murder that shocked the country was closed in February of this year. He is accused of murder under aggravating circumstances and against two or more persons, as it also includes actions against minors MC and LM.
Also, the prosecution body decided to separate the acts of this proceeding, the acts related to the criminal offense of "Abuse of office" regarding the actions or inactions of the school staff, which were registered in another proceeding.
Investigations continue for this proceeding as, according to the prosecution, it is necessary to conduct other investigative actions, with the aim of individualizing guilt and specific criminal responsibilities.
Përlleshaj requested that his security measures be changed and that he be placed under "house arrest." The 14-year-old is currently in the juvenile detention center in Kavaja.
We recall that as a result of the fight between the minors, the suspected perpetrator himself was injured.
The serious incident occurred near the "Fan Noli" school on November 18 of last year. So tomorrow marks 1 year.
