Tirana Police have released new footage from the operation codenamed "The Network", which targeted a group suspected of trafficking and selling firearms in the capital.
The video shows one of the suspects selling a firearm to an undercover police agent. After handing over the gun, the agent gives him the agreed-upon amount of money, while the footage also shows the people involved counting the money inside the vehicle.
The publication of the video comes after the operation conducted by the Tirana Police and the Tirana Prosecution Office, as part of several months of investigations into a suspected arms trafficking network.
During the operation, Marsel Varka, 35 years old, Elsaed Maqinaj, 25 years old, Fabian Zako, 29 years old and Kristaq Biba, 32 years old were arrested. Meanwhile, Kevin Vila, 21 years old and Bledar Avdillari, 20 years old, have been declared wanted.
According to the police, four pistols, three Kalashnikov-type automatic weapons, ammunition, mobile phones and other items that will serve the investigation were seized during the operation.
Authorities suspect that the weapons were obtained from different areas of the country and then sold in Tirana. Operation “Network” is considered a continuation of previous strikes against arms trafficking, while during the entire investigation period a total of nine people were arrested and 17 firearms, four TNT cartridges, ammunition, vehicles and mobile phones were seized.
Police have announced that investigations are continuing to identify other persons involved and fully document the suspected criminal activity.
