Photos have been published of two State Police officers who were involved in the operation conducted on Thursday morning in the Lozhani area, in Maliq, where one officer lost his life and another was injured during an exchange of fire with a wanted person.
The officer who was killed has been identified as Enea Mekolli , while the injured police officer is Edison Adri. The two police officers are originally from Pogradec.
According to preliminary information, police structures had organized an operation to capture citizen Violand Braçellari, who was a wanted person. Initially, police forces went near his apartment, while later the operation was moved to a suburban and mountainous area of the Lozhan administrative unit.
During the intervention, there was an exchange of fire between the police and the wanted person. As a result, officer Enea Mekolli lost his life, while his colleague Edison Adri was injured.
Braçellari himself was also injured in the shooting, who was later handcuffed and is under the care of doctors at the hospital.
Authorities have launched investigations to fully clarify the circumstances of the serious incident, which shocked the State Police and public opinion.
