Thousands of bullets from Albania to Greece, arms trafficking group dismantled

Greek police have arrested 5 people, including 4 Greeks and 1 Albanian, on charges of arms trafficking.

According to the Greek police, the organization was active on the island of Crete, specifically in Chania.

The Greek police had information that members of this organization were trafficking weapons and ammunition from Albania to Crete.

After investigations, the Greek authorities were able to confirm the activity of the traffickers and carried out the operation to capture them, Manolis Janoulis, Nikolas Lagudhaqis, Giorgos Karcionaqis, Manushos Pisadhaqis and Albanian citizen Kostika Braho.

The three Greek citizens were pursued by the police and were seen near the Greek-Albanian border in Kostur while loading packages of ammunition. They were followed at a distance from the border to the island of Crete. As soon as they got off the boat, the police handcuffed the three Greeks, aged 30, 65, 72 and 73, while a 41-year-old Albanian was arrested in the Kostur area.

24,126 cartridges of various calibers, a German rifle, a vehicle and a motorcycle were found hidden in the vehicle used by the traffickers.

Another Albanian citizen who found and handed over the seized ammunition to traffickers within the Greek border has been declared wanted. The 65-year-old was arrested on the same charge in 2019.

The investigations have been taken over by the Chania security department and it is expected that concrete data will also be provided to the Albanian authorities for the finding and arrest of other members of the organization on Albanian territory.
