7-year-old Albanian Leona Ruka lost her life after being struck by a tree, while 4 other children were injured.
A serious incident occurred yesterday in London, where a large tree fell in a public park, crushing five little Albanian girls from Kukës.
Unfortunately, one of the little ones, the girl you see in the photo, 7-year-old Leona Ruka, lost her life as a result of serious injuries.
The tragic incident occurred in Chalkwell Park, in the town of Southend-on-Sea, shortly before 3pm, where, according to witnesses, a large part of the tree suddenly collapsed on a group of children who were playing near the rose garden.
Hundreds of citizens in the park reacted immediately, trying to lift the tree with their hands to save the children.
According to local police and emergency services, another 6-year-old girl from the Ruka family is in critical condition, while three other children are out of danger, with minor injuries.
British authorities have also reacted to the incident. "The families are facing unimaginable pain. We are with them at this tragic moment," said Essex Police Chief Leighton Hammett.
The event has shocked the Albanian community in Britain, where a call for financial assistance has also been distributed on GoFundMe to support the family of the deceased girl.
The funds will be used for funeral expenses, support for the family, as well as hospital expenses for the family's other daughter, Ruka, who is in critical condition.
A witness has recounted the terrifying moments from the serious incident.
"Everyone ran towards the place where the tree is. The tree had broken and I think there were four children, the fifth was a little further away, he was hit by a branch. Two of them were under a smaller branch, they were easily saved, and unfortunately, the other two girls, they were trapped under this giant tree.
"So we called random passersby to help, there must have been 40 to 50 people trying to lift the fallen tree. Their mother was on the corner. It was terrible ," he said.
