An operation by the Tirana Anti-Drugs Unit led to the arrest of a suspected case of drug trafficking through the postal service. A 48-year-old American citizen with the initials Sh.I., residing in Albania, was arrested, and is suspected of being the recipient of a package coming from the United States.
The suspicions arose after a customs inspection, where authorities determined that the shipment contained gelatin-shaped candies containing the suspected narcotic cannabis sativa, with a total weight of approximately 572 grams.
To identify the recipient of the package, the police organized a controlled delivery. An Anti-Drugs agent, disguised as a postman, delivered the package to the American citizen's address. Immediately after she received it, police forces intervened and arrested her in flagrante delicto.
During questioning, the 48-year-old denied ordering narcotics. She stated that she had not placed any illegal orders and that the seized package was not ordered by her.
The seized item has been sent for examination, while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances of the incident and verify the origin of the order.
