The trial of Mark Samson, accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Ilaria Sula, an Albanian student, who was murdered in March of this year in Samson's apartment in Rome and her body was put in a suitcase and thrown into a forest area on the outskirts of the Italian capital, has begun at the Third Court of Serious Crimes in Rome.
Rome prosecutors, coordinated by deputy prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini, have filed charges of premeditated murder, nefarious motive, emotional relationship with the victim and concealment of the body. Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, an immediate trial has been requested and approved.
In the courtroom were the defendant, Ilaria Sula's family and friends, who held a photo of her and the message "Justice for Ilaria".
According to LaPresse, the victim's family lawyer, Giuseppe Sforza, stated that Mark Samson's mother's position is being finalized and that she has been offered a two-year prison sentence in exchange for a guilty plea. She is accused of collaborating in hiding the body and cleaning up blood from the scene where her son allegedly killed his ex-partner.
"Ilaria's family is experiencing this moment with great tension and sadness. They seek justice, but are aware that no court decision can alleviate the pain that will always accompany them," said lawyer Sforza.
