A large number of cannabis farms have been discovered in Wales throughout 2025.
Police have uncovered commercial cultivation sites across the country, using everything from a former restaurant to the basements beneath a city centre hotel. The combined value of the cannabis grown on the farms is estimated to be in the millions of pounds.
Many of these large-scale operations are set up and run by organised crime groups, or OCGs, which use the profits made from the cannabis trade to fund other types of criminal activity. The gangs usually have close links with international traffickers who bring people to the UK for a fee.
But what are some of the largest cannabis farms found in Wales in 2025?
When police executed a search warrant at the former Meatery and Martini restaurant and adjoining bar on The Strand, in Swansea city centre, they found cannabis growing on three floors along with an apartment used as accommodation for gardeners tending to the crops. In total, more than 900 plants were seized.
Albanians Aleksander Cela, 26, and Dennis Horeshka, 30, were arrested as they tried to leave the building.
Steve Burnell, representing Çela, told Swansea Crown Court that his client had been a painter and decorator in his native Albania and owed money to those who had brought him illegally to the UK, while Andrew Evans, representing Horeshka, said the defendant's background would be "very familiar" to the court, namely someone who had entered the UK illegally with the help of people smugglers to whom he owed money.
With a 1/3 discount for the guilty plea, the defendants were sentenced to 32 months in prison.
The discovery of a large cannabis farm in a rented house has led a judge to question whether rental property laws are strict enough. After breaking down a specially fortified door to a terraced house in Mount Pleasant, Swansea, police discovered the entire property had been used to grow the drug.
Officers found a total of 398 cannabis plants, from young ones to mature specimens ready for harvest, along with grow lights, fans and other related equipment. The value of the operation was estimated at up to £171,000. Albanian national Aldi Pire ran out the back door of the house, while police entered through the front door, but was quickly stopped and arrested.

Babai i tre fëmijëve, Martin Evans, i cili jetonte në një karvan në pronë, më vonë pranoi se kishte ndihmuar një bandë shqiptare në ngritjen e kultivimit të kanabisit.
Me një zbritje prej një të tretës për pranimin e fajësisë, Evans u dënua me 18 muaj burg, dhe me një zbritje prej një të katërtës për pranimin e fajësisë, e cila u regjistrua në një fazë të mëvonshme të procesit gjyqësor, Xhafa u dënua me 29 javë burg.
Gjykata e Kurorës Mold dëgjoi se më 19 shkurt 2025, policia ekzekutoi një urdhër kontrolli në një shtëpi në Clifton Terrace në Neëtoën, Poëys, pas raporteve të inteligjencës se prona po përdorej si fermë kanabisi.
Oficerët zbuluan 274 bimë kanabisi që rriteshin në 4 kate, me një vlerë të përgjithshme prej deri në 287,000 paundësh. Bodrumi, katet e sipërme dhe papafingo ishin të mbushura me pajisje kultivimi, drita hidroponike dhe tuba ventilimi që nxirrnin nxehtësinë nga ndërtesa përmes oxhakut. Matësi i energjisë elektrike i pronës ishte anashkaluar, pasi trotuari jashtë shtëpisë ishte gërmuar më parë për të lejuar që furnizimi me energji elektrike të lidhej drejtpërdrejt me të. Në pronë ndodhej edhe 35-vjeçari shqiptar, Ismet Lika.
Lika u dënua me 25 muaj burg. Gjykatësi Niclas Parry tha se çdo deportim ishte çështje e Ministrisë së Brendshme dhe jo e gjykatës.
Kur policia hyri me forcë nëpër derën e përparme të një shtëpie në Rrugën Pleasant në Morriston, menjëherë pas saj ndodhej një derë e dytë, e cila ishte vendosur për të vonuar hyrjen. Gjykata dëgjoi se oficerët përfundimisht hynë me forcë dhe zbuluan se e gjithë prona ishte shndërruar në një vend për kultivimin e kanabisit, me papafingon e përdorur si "çerdhe", një dhomë gjumi të dedikuar për bimë të reja dhe katër dhoma të tjera që përmbanin bimë të rritura.
Në total, policia gjeti 131 bimë së bashku me pajisje kultivimi, duke përfshirë drita, ventilatorë, tharëse ajri dhe filtra karboni. Në pronë ishte edhe shqiptari Leonart Vata, i cili kishte një telefon, ushqim dhe çelësa të shtëpisë.
Vata was sentenced to nine months in prison. The defendant will serve up to half of the sentence in custody before being released on parole, where he will likely be transferred to an immigration detention center.
When police stopped a car in Cardiff on February 2, they found 33-year-old Albi Blloshmi in possession of a phone and a set of house keys. The phone had pictures of a cannabis plantation. The keys were for a property in Heathfield Place in the Cathays area of the city and when officers searched the house, they found a total of 94 mother plants in four grow rooms, along with 330 seedlings in a nursery area.
