The victim has been identified as Francesk Shkambi, 44, a resident of Howell.
A serious incident occurred on Sunday evening in Michigan, USA, after a 44-year-old Albanian man was shot and killed outside the restaurant where he worked.
The victim has been identified as Francesk Shkambi, 44, a resident of Howell.
It is suspected that he was a relative of Elvis Shkambi, the accused in the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja in Tirana. He also opened a GoFundMe campaign a few weeks ago to raise funds in aid of Elvis and Gjon Shkambi.
According to US authorities, the victim was found seriously injured on the porch of the bar and was immediately transported to the hospital, but died a short time later at the hospital. About 20 minutes after the incident, a 65-year-old man from Farmington Hills turned himself in to police and was arrested without resistance, while investigators also seized a 9 mm pistol. It was allegedly stolen from Clinton Township in January.
Shkambi was the general manager of the Prime 7 location. Sources told FOX 2 that Shkambi had received a call, left the restaurant and was shot.
Officials said the victim and the perpetrator had known each other for a long time and had a prior dispute, but the exact motive remains unclear. The victim was shot twice.
Shkambi's family says his death is not just a loss for them, but for everyone who knew him.
"He wasn't just our uncle, he was like the man of the house. He would walk into a room and be angelic every time. It's so unbelievable to me that he's no longer alive," said Shkambi's niece, Marsilda Dakaj.
"He was him... without wanting to apologize for him. The life of the party and he was a beautiful soul," said Shkambi's nephew, Mark Gjura.
Shkambi's family says they believe the suspect was a friend of their uncle.
"It was a friend. He's come here and had dinner with us in the past, and during the Lions game, I got a call from friends telling me there had been a shooting at Prime 7 because I worked there, and my mom said, 'It's Franco, it's Franco,' and then we rushed to the hospital all together as a family," Gjura said.
The connection with Elvis Shkambi and the GoFundMe campaign
A few weeks before the murder, Francesk Shkambi had opened a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the legal defense of Elvis and Gjon Shkambi, presenting himself as their family member. The campaign had managed to raise over $8,000.
Relatives and colleagues have described Francesk Shkambi as a calm and dedicated person. The local community has been shocked by the incident, while the Prime 7 restaurant announced the closure of its activities following the murder.
