A powerful explosion inside the entrance of a building in the Perash area of Shkodra killed 69-year-old Hysni Ymeri. The event shocked not only the neighborhood, but also the investigative structures that have not yet managed to determine exactly what caused the explosion. There are two main leads in the investigation: a possible electrical fault or a deliberate explosion with explosives.
The victim, who had just returned to the apartment to continue visiting his wife who was ill with cancer in the Shkodra hospital, was engulfed in flames and although he managed to be transported to the hospital, he could not survive the injuries he sustained. Forensic expertise has found injuries from contact with electricity and burns to the head, but the possibility of an explosive explosion has not been ruled out, for which samples have been taken and are being analyzed by the anti-terrorist unit.
Hysni Ymer's name was not known to the public, but his surname was previously mentioned in criminal records. His brother was convicted of a murder in the early 1990s in the Kiras area of Shkodra. The incident at that time caused tensions between the two families, who were later said to have reconciled.
In 1995, Shefqet Çekorja was killed in Kiras by the brother of Hysni Ymer. Shefqet Çekorja is the brother of Ismet Çekorja who was killed in September 2022 near his apartment.
The Ymeri tribe has also been responsible for several other crimes that have occurred in Shkodra over the past decade, including the murder of a doctor in 2017 after a property dispute. Another case is that of a cousin who killed his wife and then shot himself.
Police are awaiting the results of chemical tests to determine whether it was an electrical incident or a deliberate act. Meanwhile, family members' testimonies rule out the possibility of any open conflict in recent days. The victim's son had come from abroad due to his mother's critical health condition and was in the hospital at the time of the incident.
