The base interest rate does not change, Sejko: The economy remains stable

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, has given a clear signal today about the country's financial stability, confirming that the base interest rate will remain unchanged.

At the press conference, Sejko stated that the Albanian economy is growing steadily and that the positive trend is expected to continue in 2026.

" The Albanian economy is growing and this is expected to continue. We are focused on maintaining monetary stability, so the base interest rate will not change at this stage," said Sejko. He added that wage increases and other factors will influence a moderate increase in inflation, but the bank will intervene to keep it under control. According to him, economic growth for next year is forecasted in the range of 3.3 to 3.6 percent.

Another important development made public by the governor was the digitalization of the payment system. “We are working to formalize the economy and improve financial services. Transfers up to 40 thousand lek will be commission-free, while for larger ones there will be a reduction in fees ,” Sejko emphasized.

He guaranteed that transactions will become faster, safer and more economical, bringing the Albanian banking system closer to European Union standards. “ Our goal is for citizens to benefit from a modern and transparent system ,” said Sejko.

In closing, the governor struck an optimistic tone, emphasizing the role of the Bank of Albania as a guarantor of the stability and development of the national economy. “ We are working for a stronger, more sustainable and inclusive economy ,” he concluded.
