One of the protesters who spoke during the rally in front of the Prime Minister's Office stated that, a few hours before the protest, he had received anonymous messages and phone calls with threatening content, due to his engagement in the civic protests.
Speaking to the participants, he said he does not believe he is the only person who has received such messages and that pressure on protesters will not stop their participation in the rallies.
The protester said he had decided not to speak about the private communications he had received, but to convey a public message from the protest podium.
"A few hours ago I received some anonymous threatening messages and phone calls. I believe many others have too, I'm not the only one who has received them. Threatening messages about my peaceful protest for this people," he said.
He further emphasized that despite any form of pressure or intimidation, the protesters will continue to remain in the square until their demands are met.
The protester also added that he had not come to read private messages, but to address a public message to anyone trying to intimidate citizens.
"But I don't come with private messages today. I'm sending a public message. We will stay here, we will protest here, until our demands are met," the protester said.
At the end of his speech, the young man raised the claim that the people who had contacted him were posing as representatives or speaking on behalf of the American Embassy in Tirana, publicly addressing the diplomatic institution.
"And one last thing, the messages claimed to be from the American Embassy. Let me ask you a question, American Embassy, is this how you treat Albanian youth? With threats? With intimidation?" he said.
