Today's price, set by the Board, is the highest that has been practiced in Albania since the conflict in the Middle East began, and Iran continues to block the Strait of Hormuz.
The Transparency Board, established to control fuel prices that suffered severe fluctuations after the start of the war in the Middle East, has not lasted even 24 hours since the decision taken on Friday that retail oil at gas stations would have a ceiling price of 203 lek per liter.
But at its meeting on Saturday morning, the Board set the new price: oil will be sold at 218 lek per liter, 15 lek more than the decision made on Friday.
Meanwhile, for the price of gasoline, the increase has been more reduced, after the ceiling price of 175 lek per liter was set in Friday's decision, on Saturday morning, the Board set the ceiling price at 181 lek per liter.

The price of diesel at gas stations, retail sales, peaked at 2014 lek per liter, then began a slight decline, until the moment when the Board set the ceiling price on March 27 at 203 lek, while for gasoline, it was set at 175 lek per liter from 199 lek per liter.

The retail price of the gasoil by-product of the SSH EN 590 standard shall be no more than 218 lek/liter, while the wholesale price shall be no more than 206 lek/liter.
The retail price of the SSH EN standard gasoline by-product should be no more than 218 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 169 lek/liter.
The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, March 28th at 10.30 pm and will be valid until the next board meeting where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.
We draw the attention of every operator of wholesale and retail sales of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision.
In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided.
The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market .
What changed the ceiling price?
It is not known whether this Board decision was a miscalculation that was later corrected with today's decision, or pressure exerted by wholesalers.
The Prime Minister has stated several times that he is not a politician who can be pressured or who makes decisions under pressure, and if this logic holds, then the Board made a mistake with its calculations on Friday, March 27, when it set the ceiling prices.
Immediately after the publication of the ceiling prices, fuel importers addressed the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, requesting a review of the calculation methodology. They even warned in a letter that they would suspend fuel imports.
According to importers, the calculation is based on the formula used in 2022, which does not reflect current market conditions and, in particular, the contracts in force that we have with our suppliers. As a result, the prices set do not reflect the real costs that currently form the price of a liter of diesel and gasoline for wholesale trade.
Today, on the ICE Intercontinental Exchange in London, the value of the Brent crude oil contract was $105.32 per barrel, while on the NYMEX Commodity Exchange in New York, the price of a barrel of WTI crude oil reached $99.64 per barrel. / Pamphlet /
