A federal court in Washington has punished the Albanian Government, ordering the seizure of assets worth $13 million belonging to the Albanian state. The decision comes after Omni Bridgeway, a company, approached a US court to seek the enforcement of an arbitration decision that was being ignored by the Rama Government.
The arbitration awarded by a court in Switzerland since 2020 has not been implemented by the Rama Government, which seems to have forced the litigation financing company Omni Bridgeway to turn to a federal court in the US to force the Albanian Government to pay the amount determined by the Arbitration.

Clash with the Government
The conflict in question involves the Albanian Government and the company GBC Oil Co.Ltd, a company registered in the Cayman Islands with Albanian owners, Naim Kasa, Kreshnik Greza and the American Mark Crawford, former president of the American Chamber of Commerce.
The case, titled Omni Bridgeway Limited v. Albania, was filed before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in August 2025.
At the time, American media wrote that Omni Bridgeway announced today that it is pursuing the implementation of a $13 million arbitration award against the Republic of Albania after years of non-compliance by the state.
The award, originally secured by GBC Oil Co. Ltd. and later assigned to Omni Bridgeway in 2023, stems from a nearly decade-long dispute over taxes on oilfield projects.
Despite a court decision in absentia confirming the decision more than 6 months ago and the formal delivery of the decision to Albania more than 3.5 months ago, Albania has failed to respond, pay or take any steps towards fulfilling its obligations.
“The respondents have not complied with any part of the award nor have they shown any plans to do so,” Omni Bridgeway stated in its filing, which stated that “the continued failure of the Republic of Albania to engage confirms that enforcement action is now necessary.”
The dispute arose in 2007, when GBC entered into an oil agreement with Albania’s state-owned company, Albpetrol Sh.A. Over time, the Albanian government imposed new taxes and eliminated key exemptions, in violation of its contractual obligations. In 2020, an arbitration court ruled decisively in favor of GBC, awarding over $12.5 million plus costs and interest.
After Albania refused to pay the price, Omni Bridgeway went to court in the US to seize Albanian assets in the United States. /Pamphlet/
