High school graduates follow the labor market, IT and medicine at the top of

As high school graduates await the opening of the phase of selecting their preferences for higher education, their choices are increasingly oriented towards the branches that offer better employment opportunities. The labor market is becoming one of the main factors influencing young people's decision-making about pursuing university education.

The Director of the Albanian Academic Network, Arjan Xhelaj, says that graduates are analyzing data on employment and performance from previous years to make safer choices.

"Ultimately, it is expected that these graduates will be formed with the knowledge required by the labor market, to enable their rapid employment. The graduates, from the moment they begin their research in the U-Albania program, are also reoriented by the demands of the labor market and how things have been in previous years, to be able to orient themselves towards the branches that are absorbed more quickly by the market," said Arjan Xhelaj, director of the Albanian Academic Network for "Ora News".

According to data from recent years, the greatest interest of high school graduates is focused on information technology, engineering, and medical sciences programs.

Meanwhile, traditional branches, such as economics, law, and other fields of social sciences, continue to remain part of the preferences, but with a lower interest compared to previous years.

"The new generation is oriented towards ICT, engineering and technical branches. It is less oriented towards classical branches, not that they have lost their attention because the market will need classical branches such as economics, law or other branches, but to some extent the interest of the first years of democracy has decreased. Foreign languages are also less, since high school graduates are learning them from high school and they become an integral part of their studies. Branches that are in demand by the domestic market are: technology, engineering but also medical sciences and nursing. This is either in the domestic market or due to the demands of the European market ," added Xhelaj.

According to Xhelaj, higher education institutions are also adapting to labor market developments, reviewing study programs almost every year. The goal is for curricula to be more flexible and prepare students with the skills required by employers, both in Albania and in the European market.
