The Transparency Board changes fuel prices again, diesel and gasoline are reduced

The Transparency Board has set this Thursday the new ceiling prices for the sale of fuels in the domestic market.

According to the decision taken at today's meeting, the retail price for diesel will be no more than 187 lek per liter, while the wholesale price will be no more than 175 lek per liter.

Meanwhile, for gasoline, the maximum retail price has been set at 174 lek per liter, while the wholesale price is 162 lek per liter.

The board announced that the new prices came into effect on May 28, at 2:00 p.m., and will remain in effect until the next meeting, when new market changes will be reflected.

In an additional clarification, the Board emphasizes that, based on Normative Act No. 1, dated April 3, 2026, the reduction of excise duty to 80% applies only in cases where the price of diesel exceeds 220 lek/liter or gasoline 200 lek/liter.

Since current prices are below these limits, the excise tax on fuels will continue to be applied at the full level, 100%.

Transparency Board Announcement:

The Transparency Board on May 28, 2026, at its next meeting, decided:

The retail price of the gasoil by-product of the SSH EN 590 standard should be no more than 187 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 175 lek/liter.

The retail price of the SSH EN standard gasoline by-product should be no more than 174 lek/liter, while the wholesale price should be no more than 162 lek/liter.

The prices set by the Board will come into effect today, the 28th, at 2:00 p.m. and will be valid until the next board meeting where the changes in sales prices will be reflected.

We draw the attention of every operator of wholesale and retail sales of petroleum by-products to the obligation to implement this decision.

In case of violations found by various operators, the suspension of activity will be decided.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, are committed to protecting the interests of Albanian consumers and preserving the principles of fair competition in the market.

EXPLANATION: Referring to Normative Act No. 1, Date 3.4.2026 “On an addition to Law No. 61/2012, “On excise duties in the Republic of Albania,” as amended, which provides that if the retail price for diesel is higher than 220 lek/liter, or for gasoline is higher than 200 lek/liter, the 80% excise duty level shall be applied. Based on the application of the methodology for calculating the retail price ceiling, the prices are below the limit of Normative Act No. 1, date 3.4.2026, and consequently the excise duty level shall be applied in full, 100%.
