Prime Minister Edi Rama continues negotiations to fill the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania, a process that was supposed to be completed by December 2025.
The clash of political interests for control of the Bank's management blocked and postponed the process of selecting members until February 2026.
On December 15, the mandate of 6 members of the Supervisory Council ended. Three of them are proposed by the Prime Minister, while three by the Speaker of the Parliament.
So far, 5 members have been selected and appointed, while 1 position remains vacant, although 5 months have passed since the legally required deadline.
The selection of the member for the vacant seat is the responsibility of the Speaker of the Assembly, Niko Peleshi. However, the procedure is not progressing and there is still no public information about the applications or the name that will be proposed to the Assembly.
According to information received by "Pamfleti", the real decision on this name is expected to be made by Edi Rama, despite the fact that formally the competence belongs to the Parliament.
In the first procedure, Niko Peleshi introduced Frosela Filo, the wife of the mayor of Korça, Sotiraq Filo, as a candidate. But the candidacy did not advance and she resigned on the day of appearing before the parliamentary committee.
The process now remains blocked. The main question is why the Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania continues to function with a vacancy and who is holding the appointment of the last member hostage. / Pamphlet
