American oligarchs join Trump in Beijing: the "America First" base does not forgive rapprochement with China...

Amid nationalist rhetoric and pressure from American oligarchs, the former president is facing the most dangerous accusation for the movement he himself created: compromising with China and abandoning the 'America First' doctrine...
Donald Trump returns to the American stage every day as a symbol of economic nationalism, revolt against global elites, and the “America First” doctrine. But behind the harsh rhetoric, the rallies with American flags, and the promises to bring factories back to American soil, a contradiction is emerging that is shaking the very ideological foundation of the MAGA movement: is Trump betraying the cause he himself created?
This question is no longer raised only by Democrats or the liberal establishment in Washington. It is being heard more and more loudly in conservative circles, in the nationalist American media, and among Trump voters themselves, who view with suspicion the new rapprochement of the American financial elites with China. The irony is brutal: the man who built his political career on demonizing Beijing is now surrounded by billionaires and economic oligarchs who are demanding the return of business with China.
In his first term, Trump presented himself as the president who would dismantle neoliberal globalization. He declared a trade war with China, imposed harsh tariffs, and accused Beijing of technological theft, currency manipulation, and the destruction of American industry. For millions of working-class Americans, especially in the industrial states of the Midwest, Trump became a figure of political revenge against Wall Street elites and corporations that had moved production to Asia.
But today the situation seems much more complex. After Trump's return to the center of Republican power, it is precisely the oligarchs of technology, finance and global industry who are approaching him. Paradoxically, many of these figures have direct interests in the Chinese market and are seeking to stabilize relations with Beijing. China is no longer seen by them as an ideological enemy, but as an economic necessity.
Here begins the great clash within the MAGA universe itself. Trump’s populist base did not fight for the restoration of deals with China. It did not vote for a compromise on globalization. It did not raise Trump to power so that American billionaires could negotiate again with Xi Jinping. The MAGA voter believed that Trump would be the president of strategic disengagement from China, the president who would restore American industry and end economic dependence on the US’s main rival.
But the brutal reality of the global economy is forcing Trump to confront the limits of his populism. America cannot easily separate itself from China. American corporations depend on Chinese production chains. Wall Street does not want an economic war with Beijing. Silicon Valley cannot give up the Chinese market and Asian capital. Even the billionaires who support Trump today know that the American economy cannot survive without a minimum of stability with China.
At this point, the big question arises: was MAGA an ideological revolution or simply a bargaining chip for the American elite? Because if Trump ends up doing exactly what he accused the globalist establishment of, compromising with China in the name of economic interest, then the entire “America First” narrative risks collapsing on its foundations.
China is intelligently following this domestic American crisis. Beijing has understood that the biggest divide in the US is not between Democrats and Republicans, but between populist nationalism and the American economic oligarchy. This is where the Chinese strategy becomes cynical and long-term: China does not need to defeat America militarily if America consumes itself politically.
Trump faces a historic test today. If he continues his anti-China rhetoric, he risks conflict with the corporations and economic sponsors who are returning to his side. If he chooses to stabilize with Beijing, he risks losing the trust of the MAGA base that sees China as an existential threat. He is walking a very fine line between nationalist populism and the brutal realism of global capitalism.
Ultimately, the question is not just whether Trump is betraying MAGA. The real question is whether MAGA has ever been stronger than the interests of the American economic elite. American history has often shown that populist presidents can win elections on the back of popular anger, but govern in the shadow of Wall Street and corporate strategic interests.
And it is there, on that border between patriotic rhetoric and global bargaining, that America's greatest political drama is being played out today./ Pamphlet
