At least 13 people have died and dozens more have been injured in a fire that engulfed several residential buildings in Hong Kong.
Police said several people were trapped inside as the fire engulfed six 31-story towers. Authorities declared the incident a five-alarm fire, the highest emergency rating, and at least 128 fire engines and nearly 800 firefighters were dispatched to battle the flames. Roads, including major highways near the towers, have been closed.

"The temperature inside the buildings in question is very high. It is difficult for us to enter the building and go upstairs to carry out firefighting and rescue operations," he said.

Two people are reported to be in critical condition with severe burns. At least one firefighter named Ho Wai-ho, 37, was among the dead.

The fire, the deadliest in Hong Kong in decades, broke out on Wednesday afternoon at the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in Tai Po, in the region's northern New Territories. The complex consists of eight towers containing about 2,000 apartments housing about 4,800 people.
